I never knew he was the synth guy in Video Killed the Radio Star. Mind blown.

I don’t know how he keeps everything straight. I’ve always wanted a little composition room. Hans says he’s pretty much there 24hr a day. If I had even a small set up…I’d never leave. I’m blessed with being able to listen to a certain instrument while blocking the rest out. I’ve had a gf or five that did the typical girly laugh when they sit behind a drum set and hit a cymbal for the first time. Each one always looked at me embarrassed. I shut that down with “you gotta start somewhere”. A friend was learning a SRV shuffle, yet with the hi hat instead of the snare. He told me the drummer played it differently live. Chris Layton did not. It was a defensive mechanism because he couldn’t get it right. I jumped on the laptop and slowed it down. He learned it. Then he heard Buddy Rich and commented he’d never learn that. Again, I slowed down 16 bars. He learned it pretty quick. When he was done I said “you just played Buddy Rich”. Now he has rehearsal space and everyone uses in-ear monitors. If there’s one mistake, he’ll stop and let you know. I don’t brag about being just annoying enough to get people over a hump. Hearing the results is the best reward. When people can compartmentalize just the hi hat (or whatever) and this look of wonder comes over them. When I’m watching classical orchestra on tv, the tv sound is lacking at best. I wonder why not one gf asked me to teach them some bass…yet playing a house party, the ladies always used my cabinets as a seat. Big smiles from the low B👍🏻👍🏻😂😂🔥🇨🇦

I've always loved when the French Horn players get their spotlight shown on them. Such bold powerful instruments, and this is with no electronic augmentation. Just 8 musicians blasting away on those glorious horns with their mastery skills using two simple yet powerful notes.

i think its most difficult to make music for so many different scenes. No wonder he does this with 10 other composers. Also because of the amount of project he is involved in.
